North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Jesus freaks, site religious rights, but..

In this country marriage is a contract that is bound to other institutions, especially taxes.

So if you're going to tie marriage to other legal documents and institutions, then you have to take the "religious" aspect out of it. No?

how old are you not to have figured out the legalities of marriage have fukk all to do with religious reasons/ceremony for marriage?

English :mjpls:

There are two totally different aspects to marriage.

The "religious" aspect and the "legal" aspect.

You can marry someone right now with a backyard ceremony under the house of "god".

But then you have to get a LICENSE, entering into a legally binding contract, with other addons like prenups.

Where does it talk about marriage licenses in the bible? Prenups in the bible?

It don't.

And evidently, people don't know

You're talking as if the religious institution of marriage doesn't predate marriage law.

The legal institution of marriage destroyed marriage.

Lol @ you trying to draw some authority out of the dystopian twists to a religious institution

You be monogamous with the same person for 100 years. But the law requires you sign a contract in order to qualify for certain privileges.

i don't see the issue with that, the govt incentivizes people to get married because it usually makes for more stable households and less support they have to provide. if you want the tax breaks, shared benefits/healthcare, etc, you do a legal marriage. if you don't care about that, keep it moving with just your religious/spiritual/word of mouth proclamation. nothing says you need to do both...or either, some people just have a life partner without any form of the word marriage/married attached...we're grown, do what suits you.
