I was actually planning to go back to school for the same thing. :ehh:

I hear it pays well but you gotta be tough.

Are you tough enough, Sir? :jbhmm:
:stopitslime:

:sadcam: I was considering shadowing and interviewing local probation officer to see if im cut out for it. Seeing how a lot of good people get caught up in the system and probation officers can either make it easier or harder I see the ability to make a difference. I looked it up and it starts at 30k-40k and you need a bachelor's

A terrible aspect of the job.. driving around looking for people etc but if i give a fukk then maybe some people don't become a statistic of recidivism

Is this your passion?

Some man whose job is to check up on them or more of an annoyance than a helpful assistant. Just want to make sure you know what you are getting into because this is a job that is thankless.

Its good your passionate about it. Too many just do it for the check. Your tune might change tho when you dealing with 8 dudes at the same time who cant pass their piss tests

I'm researching it now as I decided to finish up my criminal justice degree that I started when I was 19 .. the more I look into it the more I feel uncomfortable doing things that don't have an impact . Was considering getting a paralegal cert as well

That's the main thing that was making me hesitant about it as finding the line of being stern but not clocking out mentally and just collecting a check violating everyone

Why specifically probation officer and not another form of social work?

You could do the job and then switch careers into something else if you don't find it to your liking. We only give you one side of the story breh, having hands on experience or talking to people in the profession (which you are doing research on) is your best bet.

The average person these days stays at a job for a couple of years, so it won't be a life long commitment.

I think the main thing most of them need is just knowing they have someone in their corner. A lot of felons have burned too many bridges

I'm considering all forms, it's just that a state job is gonna be stable pay notes. Seemed like there was a shortage in that career though

Personally, I think its better to work with children if the goal is to make long lasting impact but I know a few brehs who are on papers who have good interpersonal relationships with their POs and view them as mentors but its a roll of the dice :manny:
