what really stops tical from bein' a GREAT and CLASSIC album like the other early wu releases?

just a question i'm askin' since i'm bout to listen to the album right now
what makes tical not as great or classic like only built, 36 chambers, and liquid swords?
i don't think it's anythin' wrong with this album, i think it's a great piece of music but i often wonder why some people don't hold it in high regard with the other early wu releases

Dunno if this makes sense, but I feel like well 36 is classic because of that raw energy, the Wu coming on the scene, while LS and Only built are both more polished and more "cinematic". Tical is kind of a like in the middle of that. Great piece of music though.

And I also think that it's not felt as a classic because everyone knows Meth is a way better MC than what he showed on his debut

It was the most anticipated of all the Wu solos because meth was seen as the face of wu at the time, and it didnt meet expectations. It has a lot of filler unlike the other solo classics. Also, I love meth but he's not the lyricist gza, rae, or ghost are.

It has no terrible joints but I usually skip All I Need, because the remix was superior, plo style isnt that great to me, i get my thang in action is just ok, method man remix was unnecessary. I still think it's a solid 4 mic album it just doesn't feel nearly as classic liquid swords, cuban linx, ironman, supreme clientele

I agree with you on 4 mic stuff tho in retrospect it could be 4.5 mics

But these look like personal likes and dislikes with tracks. Other than those unnecessary remixes, there's no filler amongst the first 12. I see your point though.

The album didn't have an additional quality other than dope rhymes and dark beats. RZA hadn't yet perfected the formula for differentiating solo artists, but I guess the flood didn't help either.

it starts off thematic and following that Wu Martial Arts vibe with the samples but i think the flood ruined that when RZA had to remake and get together different beats quickly. had they all been at the level of Tical, Bring The Pain, Release Yo Delf, Mr. Sandman, etc then we'd probably have a classic debate. there's no real theme to it, which is something that Liquid Swords and OB4CL def benefit from but i'm not sure Mef is that kind of artist either.
