Take the test at your local community college. The cert comes with passing it.

The test should be common sense to a Coli Vet like yourself.

:sas2:
so its a self study type of thing??

You can take a class, but it is not necessary.

Plenty of free online classes that cover majority of the material.

Keep it 300% with you, the cert isn't really all that important. What it will do is land you a $12 an hour gig from a temp agency, that will yield you the experience you need to get the $20-$25 gigs.

That could take a few years. During those years, it's best to learn a coding language to make your portfolio look better.

Basically, IT is more about knowledge and experience than it is about the certificates.

i'd recommend taking a 2 year program at a tech school, but you can technically take the test whenever you want

getting certified after the 2 year program is much easier tho, plus it will give you a wider field of experience/knowledge to match

i'm about to go finish up the second year of my shyt as well later on this year

like @msims said, you should try to learn a coding language like java or perl or c++ to really make the most of it and broaden your opportunities

when i did my first year i was taking Computer Information Science (CIS) but anything like Networking or Computer Support Specialist will work...you should look at what programs of study your local tech schools offer, and see what courses are involved in them...but anything in the computer range of programs will usually have the courses you need to get certified

So I'm changing my major to IT(gonna be a sophmore) and was probably lookin for a networking career, I was peepin gems from the IT thread and stuff. So basically I need to complete a bachelors degree in IT and then pursue the certs. I think I could get one while i'm in school now (senior year), but not sure what it should be...maybe a easy low level cert that will help get an entry level job and basic knowledge, then go on to the harder ones.
