I wouldn't even necessarily say it's just a NYT thing, it's more a microcosm of the media in general in 2018.

If anything this is an unfortunate side effect of Fox News/right-wing talk radio in general, exacerbated by the rise of Trump. They've spent years accusing the "mainstream" media of liberal bias, so now these media outlets feel a need to publish a certain number of bullshyt articles to coddle that demographic. So for example, man-made climate change already has a scientific consensus and has for a long time, but in order to not be accused of liberal bias a lot of these papers will act as if the issue is unsettled and there are rational arguments on both sides.


Unfortunately that's the status quo these days.

The op-ed section of the NYT is gradually becoming worse everyday, perhaps their worst writer is Bari Weiss and her last article about the 'The Intellectual Darkweb' was really bad.

They decided to give a voice to these conservatives because they think it gives the paper some insight into Trump supporters. Look at how many Trump voter feeling wronged/misunderstood stuff that has been coming out. It's ironic because the right will always associate them with the so called coastal elites and liberal establishment yet the paper was all in on the Iraq war and broke news about Clintons servers. They are still part of what the right terms liberal biased media though, Fox news does not or even tried to understand Obama voters though, they pushed Obama phones, ACORN, Black Panthers and socialist stuff all day.

Honestly there is nothing wrong with the NYT if you believe in reaching across the aisle and going high when they go low.

Misinformed opinions no matter how dangerous should be allowed if you belive in working across the aisle

Certainly there was and has been a sustained period where people thought the truth was important. It was fundamental to almost every human and civil rights movement.

That said there has never been a point where the balanced was completely in one direction or the other.

The point I am making is that these people in the media aren’t even attempting to say something is wrong anymore. They never have with racism, but they will when politicians lie or are corrupt. They not even doing that now.
