It was part of that esoteric, open text style. Like Digable Planets “9th Wonder”. Purposefully mixed the vocals low to make people listen to the shyt closely to figure it out.

"Ishmael Buttler stated "I read where George Clinton said the stuff that's inaudible the first couple of listens adds longevity to a record, because it draws the person in. You might catch a word or a phrase on down the road, and that makes that record all the more intriguing". Ishmael also mentioned "The vocals were to be woven in with the fabric of the music, not necessarily something that was on top. The record label was like 'nobody can hear what you're saying', but I felt like if the music was engaging enough, then over time it would provide a richer listening experience"
Same with Shakespeare, tf was that guy talking about half the time :manny:

This is it what, Lucini pouring from the sky

Thing is, with Digable Planets their shyt you could decipher when they did start spitting abstract lyrics.
Camp Lo was damn near gibberish with their shyt.
It was almost always about rhyming as many words as they could that sounded fly together.

Camp Lo is one of my favorite Hip Hop groups of all time.

They were talking about street shyt just in a really really fly way.

They made raps about killing and drug dealing really really cool.

A lot of times I found myself being like, "Damn, that whole verse was about killing a motherfukker over a brick and shyt sounded like the coolest thing ever."

Their slang was inspired from the 70s blaxploitation era.

Yeah, but it's not the references from the 70's Blaxploitation era, it's the way in which they say shyt after they reference whatever subject/topic
Without really knowing what certain words mean that they themselves flipped around made it hard for the listener to follow what they were spitting.
