Basically, the copies sold on the same amount of a rap album back in the year 2000

It depends on the budget.

If a game like Ace Attorney sales 2 million copies, it’s a very successful game.

If a game like (a mainline) Assassin’s Creed sales 2 million copies, it’s a flop

"According to a report from industry analyst David Gibson, Marvel's Avengers cost well over $100 million to produce but only sold about 3 million copies, resulting in a net loss of about $63 million. That's less than Anthem, a game where a lot of things infamously went wrong. So, what went wrong with Avengers?"

is what you don't want. ever.

A lot of that budget probably went into the license alone. I’m pretty sure thats why telltale ended up going bankrupt because they kept buying big licenses for games, (game of thrones, marvel, dc, walking dead, Minecraft, stranger things etc) unlike Lego they didn’t really sell huge numbers to justify buying so many.

They would have been better off continuing to work on smaller scale comic and tv properties like they did with wolf among us
