I was around nine ten when jordan came back started following ball in 02 03 as much as a child could with limited channels and a limited knowledge of the game. my question is were people expecting him to lead the wizards deep playoff runs and still be an mvp candidate?

Everybody knew the Wizards weren't going to be very good even with Jordan.
The real hope was that he could elevate and develop Kwame Brown and the young kids.

Unfortunately people either didn't know, or refused to report what a brutal a$$hole Jordan was. And he probably did more to destroy Kwame's confidence and development than anyone could have thought.

In any case people expected him to be elite when he returned in the mid 90s.
Nobody really expected him to be a 30 point scorer with the Wizards.

I might add, looking back...a 38 year old Jordan playing 35 minutes a night wasn't a good idea for the long term prospects of the club either. But I guess nobody puts Jordan in a corner....

Jordan on the Wizards was amazing. When they got on that winning streak that 1st season. He was the frontrunner for MVP before he got injured.

The man was 38 years old playing 35 minutes a night, shooting the ball 28 times with low efficiency.

He put on some great shows and had a 50 point game that 1st year.
But he didn't move the franchise forward in any way.

Never claimed he moved the team forward im simply saying he was playing well overall and had the team playing well before injury and was talked about as an mvp candidate. He got surgery and continued to play after the injury which fukked his number for the season.
