Just how different they were from what I was accustomed to.

Even in 2021 you can look back and see a clear difference between Wu tang and their peers.

From presentation to sound.

I was raised on westcoast hiphop

it was like everyone I was listening to was speaking in print and this unknown collective shows up outta nowhere spitting in cursive

It was 2002. I must have been 13. Art teacher lent me his copy. Changed my life. I deaded mainstream rap ever since. Didnt understand the rhymes but the production, flows, cadence, and overall cohesion was like nothing else. Hit me over the head like a falling building

Literally got chills. Still remember being outside cutting grass and having the tape in my Walkman. I just froze, caught a crazy chill and felt like a part of my brain was being opened that had never been before. Prior to this I was only listening to west coast albums as a casual listener, save for Black Moon but didn’t have that same reaction to Enta Da Stage though I credit it for being the transition album for me. Wu probably changed the trajectory of my life. From that point on I dove head first into Hip Hop and started seeking as much knowledge as I could to try and understand what it was I was hearing.

It was the first CD I ever had because my older brother bought the censored version by accident and gave it to me and it was funny as hell because they had kung-fu noises in place of all the curse words

Tracks were obviously hard af but I remember the skits at first I was thinking WTF I aint know you can get these shyts off on a rap record

This was in the mid 2000s BTW. To this day I can count on one hand the amount of artists/groups whose skits is some shyt Id sit through that aint Wu affiliated. Most dont get their swag or personality to pull it off seamlessly.

Specially the Torture skit before Method Man. Also remember thinking I struck gold and aint no way these other snot nosed teens up on this Wu shyt but then I found out they were mad popular and even cacs were bumpin em :mjcry:
