Or owner/c.e.o?

I heard some ppl at Def Jam were sour.

However I also heard he was at that office at 8am to 6pm daily. He was paid $10 million over several years.

The greatest act was under his leadership - Jay launching the careers of Rihanna, Rick Ross and Kanye.

Any other into about his Def Jam tennure?

He was there too short of a time I guess to say anything from the outside. The shift towards the south and other genres had already started.
The dumping of old heads who weren't it had already started.

But he left cause he tried to make it more like Roc Nation but with the financial muscles and legacy of Def Jam with Tidal, managing shows, financial assistance, endorsement deals and all that shyt. But Universal told him to only move like they had been moving, "bring in artist, sign, develop and push to radio and tv". So obviously he didn't get to do what he wanted to do.

lol what does the average high ranking boss of a major corporation do?

Depends on the person.

People like Kevin Lyles, Lyor and them were very active in every part moving to the point that some people who were promised independence flipped (see Dame Dash).

I had a friend who worked the European division of UMG taking care of Def Jam stuff and she told the word around the office was he was basically a makeshift exec, basically there to be an attraction for people to sign with but have no real influence. I dont know bout that, from what she said he seemed to be at least an artist talent scout but who knows.

Kanye blew long before jay became president. jay wasn't even the guy pushing for Kanye at rocafella. that was dame dash.
rick ross was a joint venture.

I doubt jay really did much. hes always been more of a mascot-for-hire, posing as some sort of great businessman.

If he is not a great businessman then why is he so successful back then as well as now?

Kanye already had an album out before Jay even took that position. L. A. Reid was responsible for the other 2.
Signed Jeezy and Rick Ross...
L.A. Reid did that.

LMFAO at Jay-z launching Kanye’s career.
He did, according to Kanye at least.

Of course you can never pinpoint one person, but he was instrumental. But other important people are who worked for the Roc and Def Jam and also his own team, but of course the most important Kanye himself. There’s a reason for why Kanye, all the way until he said Beyonce and Jay had shooters, stuck with The Roc either through management or business. Jay didn’t think his style would flourish on The Roc in 2001, in 2002 he put him on his album.

Uncredited. Kanye credits Dame with putting him on.

Dawg stop with this narrative ASAP.

Jay didn't want anything to do with Kanye, Jay simply wanted Kanye for production only.
It's was Dame Dash who believed in Kanye as an artist.......Lets not forget Kanye almost signed
with Capital records they pulled out on the deal last minute.

Dame is the one who singed Kanye. to Rocafella, Kanye made Kanye famous
