What would happen if the smarks directed their angst towards Vince?

Exactly. I don't doubt Vince would get pissed if the crowd doesn't let him cut a promo or do a segment by chanting off the wall shyt for 5 minutes. But I don't think that's a real possibility because Cokeboy would find a way to make those "go away" chants become real "boo the heel" heat very quickly.

Vince has the leeway of saying whatever the fukk he wants to turn a situation around AND he's an outstanding promo when he wants to be. Those are two things Reigns doesn't have and without them he can't do shyt about those chants.

I do find it REALLY interesting that the same crowd that hates on the product and rebels by loudly booing Vince's hand picked guy, is the same crowd that bows to Vince when he's going to ring and shows him an immense amount of respect, even though they treat him like a senile person who's "lost it" online. Wrestling fans can be so fukking retarded :mjcry:
Not that hard to understand, its just reverence built up over time and nostalgia. You can appreciate Vince for all the old great moments he brought us in the past and the fact that hes the granddaddy of this shyt, and still acknowledge that he's lost his touch today and the current product is mostly underwhelming. Same reason Flair doesnt do a goddamn thing today but is still over huge in every crowd now and forever, just for showing up. When the current product is shyt, that makes the nostalgia even stronger.

Someone like Reigns, on the other hand, doesnt have that portfolio of old, fond memories for people to remember. All people associate him w/ is the current shytty product, of which he's basically the new face. And with that in mind, its easy to mentally let Vince off the hook and blame Roman for simply not being better in the position he's been given.

I think the fundamental problem is WWE's booking style. The unstoppable superhuman babyface line that runs from Bruno to Backlund to Hogan to Austin and Rock to Cena and late career face Trips and now to Reigns. It's just the way that they have always booked their main event.

It doesn't help Reigns's situation that objectively Cena is one of the worst and longest running institutions. A guy who is a bit unfairly credited with ruining wrestling's boom period when really it was Vince who got complacent and coasted, riding Cena's mediocre reliability. This reaction now is really more of a backlash on the last 12 years of storys than Reigns specifically, but the WWE's top guy road map is so thoroughly mapped out due to time and over-saturation of programming that the path ahead is clear to anyone paying attention.

The more I think about it, the open rebellion by the audience against Roman Reigns and his push and status is more of an open rebellion on the way WWE handles the top of their company. The smark fans (myself included) think if they boo Reigns (and Cena) enough the company will get the message and change their course. So far the company has preferred to stick their fingers in their ears, wink at the audience and plow forward with their agenda.

This wrestlemania will be interesting. If Taker goes over clean and Shane disappears after getting dressed down, slapped by Stephanie and called a loser on Monday night then you know nothing will ever change. If a bunch of fukkery goes down and they show the inclination to go in any kind of interesting direction post mania with the product then we may get the feud we all need, WWE vs their smark audience.

Imagine how funny that would be, Vince vs an audience in open rebellion who are paying top dollar to rebel. It's like neckbeard fantasy camp and Vince is running the camp. They could embrace the more country fans as well like a 97 Bret Hart in Canada type thing. Vince wants to bring heartland families good wholesome entertainment but these damn 30 year old attitude era leftovers just want to corrupt your kids and watch the world burn. We gave them story's that were too edgy as a means to an end to win a turf war and now they want it all the time dammit! He could be a heel in Seattle and a face in Kansas City. Shoot on the crowd in Brooklyn and send Cena out to soak up the adulation in Cedar Rapids. If he kept Shane on as a recurring character who is the voice of smark reason all the better.

For the 2 of you still reading this I swear I didn't set out to write five freaking paragraphs about Roman Reigns and WWE superhero booking at 5 in the morning but sometimes your insomniac brain gets away from you. I grew up as a WCW kid who watched Sting constantly get buried and have to keep rising up first by Flair and Vader later by face Hogan (a character very similar to latter day Cena) and then, of course, by heel Hogan so my perspective of a babyface's struggles and aspirations is a bit different. I do think though that Roman is unfairly maligned because of what came directly before him. Wrestling hasn't been too good or creative in a long time and McMahon is dangling him out there as a continuation of the status quo.

I almost quit last year but the mania ending sucked me back in. I got new roommates now who aren't into rasslin' (or sports entertainment) so I'm thinking if there's no direction after next Monday I'll transition to reading results only (and checking TSC of course) and go from there.

100% spot on....this is what I was saying in a previous post. ...it's basically the audience not wanting another cena era 2.0 ....they feel they can luger him and you know what. ..they are correct but WWE is stubborn ...they propelled Daniel Bryan....once WWE ran with Bryan they showed the smarks that they will bend a little. ...

VKM isn't hated like Boreman Lames because Vince is the puppetmaster even if he chooses the wrong puppets and books them wrongly. Boreman is a puppet who's being a fakkit because he is told to, that's why we hate him. If he told us to fukk ourselves, we might respect him.

This thread is dumb, nikka, hating Vince would be saying "How dare you book poor Roman to be the Samoan cena! You big meanie!". That is gay. Instead, we ether Reigns telling him "You're a fakkit with shyt mic and ring skills and Vince's dikk is in your mouth because you agreed to his idea of u being the Polynesian cena. You lost."

As a wrestling fan, it'd be pretty much sacrilegious to not respect the guy.

The good he's done for the business FAR outweighs the bad.

I know that, but it would make more sense if the respect was shown on more ocassions that just him coming out of the ring. Fans shyt on Vince and his product every day, but that stops as soon as his music hits. That's weird as fukk, specially when you consider that fans lash out on his favorites - Cena, Reigns - instead of him, when he's the main one to blame on why fans hate characters like those.

Not that hard to understand, its just reverence built up over time and nostalgia. That's an excellent post. I agree with all of it, but I still find it interesting. Specially because as I said, Vince does get shytted on a lot, it's just doesn't reflect with a live audience. I find the way fans pick and choose with him and his product/stars kinda fascinating :manny:

Because he's rarely seen, he's been getting weak reactions and CM Punk and Daniel Bryan chants the past few months.

Fans cheer anyone who isn't seen for a long time, HHH gets that too

That's a good point too. But then again, audiences were finally embracing Reigns for the most when he started feuding with Sheamus and be booked more like an Austin instead of a Cena. But for reasons that I will never understand, they dropped that course and went back to the shyt that wasn't working and will never work for him.

That's why It's interesting to me. We wrestling fans are really fukking weird.

funny thing about Reigns...the smarks WANTED to like him... he was hot during the Rumble that Batista won...he had the look...wore all black paramilitary gear, wasn't as clean-cut looking as Cena... had the Shield pedigree (one of the most over factions in a long time).... etc etc but WWE really, really dropped the ball and pushed too hard too fast.... I'd imagine this is how women feel when they start digging a dude and he pushing for sex way too soon....just buzz-killed.. then the fans realized he really isn't all that special in ring or promo wise...at least not to warrant the push...hence why you have the on again and off-again cheers....because fans keep giving the WWE chances to either turn this dude heel or make him like another Austin and WWE just too stupid to pull the trigger on either one...now we are getting to the point where the fans will not like dude no matter what they do...not there yet but it's on its way
