I don't think we understand time at all, we mostly know that it moves forward and that it can be warped by gravity, speed and perception. We know of 3 dimensions of space and plus time, there could be others dimensions of time imperceptible to us that would make us better understand the one dimension we already know of. If string theory is correct there are about 10 dimensions or so, it would be interesting to see their findings and if it includes further dimensions of time.
