Using a French example as precedent for America is kind of lazy. France has a revolutionary tradition (they’re currently on their 5th republic since 1789) and in the 50’s weren’t even a decade removed from the Vichy government. It’s telling that there isn’t even an English equivalent for the word coup.

I dont think that it has measurable implications so much as perceived cultural ones.
English borrows a lot from French, though, so it's probably explained that easily.
