Joker took the role of Oberon Sexton to fill in for the 'detective' aspect of Batman that he knew dikk and Damian couldn't live up to in order to bring down their mutual enemy.
And I'd expect better from you than referring to something Grant Morrison wrote as 'weird'.
It'd be like a bad breakup. He'd either go after the person who killed him or just lose his motivation and go straight or as straight as he could go

^ someone already posted it but that clip from the sid the squid episode of batman TAS feels pretty accurate to me. losing batman would take some of the fun and some of the challenge out of crime but at the same time with batman out of the way he could pretty much do whatever he wants now. he'd be the ruler of gotham in no time.
I forget if it's in the TV adaptation of mad love, but in the comic there's a scene with batman and joker right after joker set batman free from some trap Harley set for him. Batman tells joker that Harley got closer to killing him than joker ever got and he freaking lost it
