Intersex people (formerly known as hermaphrodites) are those born with bodies that are difficult to classify as either "male" or "female."

This could be signs of having an IS condition:

• You have a birth certificate of the opposite gender.
• You have been told that you had hernia when you was a child.
• You remember that you had genital surgeries when you was younger.
• You have scar tissue on your lower stomach and/or genitals.
• You don’t develop the secondary sex characteristics of your gender.
• You were on steroids or artificial hormones because of early puberty.

Signs of being a (true) hermaphrodite:

• You were assigned male at birth, but you start to menstruate.
• You develop secondary sex characteristics of the opposite gender.
• Your doctor tells you that you have the pelvic of the opposite gender.
• You have ambiguous genitalia on childhood pictures.
