so i'm at a bar and i'm my boy and i are the only black dudes there. it's a spot we've been to before. anyway, we're at the bar, and we're discussing movies. and the discussion of 'Ted' comes up, the movie with mark wahlberg. anyway, the guys start running off one of the scenes where the racist terms comes up.."******, spic, etc." and they're saying it so non-chalantly, like," remember when he goes "******s, spics, chinks, etc."

It wasn't used in a racist way whatsoever. It was talking about an actual scene in the film.

i honestly didn't think anything of it. i let it slide. but as i came home, i'm thinking to myself, i know a couple friends who would have got upset at them saying "******," although it's just in the context of discussing a movie that was clearly deliberately politically incorrect. and it was a funny movie. but these friends would be the type to go, "yo, why you got to say that?!?!"

is it fukked up that i didn't care that they said "******," because i knew it was in discussion of its use in a film. it didn't matter. isn't that a sign of maturity on my part? ::patrice:

honestly, even though they're my boys, i don't really like black dudes who get upset when a white dude uses the term "******" in spite of the context in which it was used. that, to me, shows intellectual weakness.

but they're talking about its use in a film. and they weren't being offensive. i thought the scene as funny, too. like, i just think that it helps our cause when we don't reflexively get outraged at the use of the term "******" at every moment of its use. if a white person says it in the proper context, i don't see any reason to get at it. unlike, say, how justin bieber used it. that was wrong and offensive, because it was used in a derogatory manner. but if you're discussing a scene in a film, i don't know if it's appropriate for me to get mad at you repeating what was put on the screen. :yeshrug:

Saying things in context of a film is fine.

Although there is a difference between discussing dialogue and quoting someone over and over like "I'm Rick James bytch."

They brought up that scene precisely so they could say ****** AND laugh in your face.

This is why i refuse to use the N word and think black people should refrain from using it if we're gonna get upset each time we hear someone else does.

It's like if a black comedian tells a joke using the word and putting emphasis on it to a mixed crowd we expect everyone of said mix crowd to laugh. But yet we expect that same mixed crowd to NOT use the word if they ever decide to repeat that joke to someone else. Same for music. It makes no sense to me but hey, i just go with the flow.:yeshrug:

But that's kind of my point. They were talking about a scene, and there wasn't any real emphasis on that particular word, no more than there was on spic, kike, chink, etc. and after it was mentioned, the discussion went on to something else like it never happened. I know some black guys might have felt a certain way about it, but I wonder if it's fair for them to get mad about that. Are non-blacks not allowed to even say the word in a clinical reference to some piece of entertainment or literature?
