Whatever happened to the battle rap forums from the early 2000s?

I've posted about it before and maybe I was just on a light part of the hiphop web. I used to post and leech instros from AHH (which seems to be the most notable). I also used to freestyle type ish off a time limit on a few sites (nobodysmiling, rn.com, mobstaz.com, and my favorite but really marginalized, thugmentality)*. I signed on to sohh in about 04 but after my cousin died, i got out of the rap ish for awhile because that was our thing. I digress, tho. Is there anyone from the coli that remembers any of these sites? Some brat named Paperchase and a whole bunch of other nonsense. It was fun tho. I'm just wondering if any of those folk are still around and what y'all ended up doing with ya lives.

*this is pretty much geocities era.

Battling lost its appeal to the young generation. Even many people on the streets abandoned it because of the "lyrical miracle" raps for the turn up stripper music.

So you saying that the south killed battling? :lupe:

real talk, i can attest to this. I used to, and still do on occasion, hop into cyphers and when I call someone out (even on something friendly) there is no one that actually wants to get into it anymore. I don't know if it's because nikkas are more bytch made or because it's cold as hell in the streets nowadays. It's a dame shame, tho. I got into rap as a way to deal with aggression and now all anyone wants to do is sing, dance, and be fukking merry. It's retarded. It's lowkey how I got into comedy because if I couldn't rap my punchlines, at least someone could appreciate the wordplay.

The commercialized south did. And it's followers. Battling is masculine by nature because it challenges and expands lyrical dexterity and skill of the MC. Since MCs don't exist in the young generation, it's a show to cater to thots.

I love southern rap so im part and parcel but i miss the diversity. I really miss battling being am essential metric. It boggles my mind that rappers cater to anyone because the whole idea of hiphop is free expression and originality.

I interacted with so many folks before genius, when ohhla was the spot. Is that whole era lost?
