A lot of advice I'd gotten is to have 6mos salary in savings. That's not realistic in most cases but depending on where you live, in a high cost of living area shoot for 10k if u can. I live in alabama so 5k for me can stretch like 15k for others in more expensive places.

Breh u in line with most of america. Saving money is easier said than done. Start by saving small, even if it's $20 a month then you can gradually up what you save. I started like that and tried to forget I had that money, that way I wouldn't be tempted to spend it.

A budget is you telling your money what to do instead of wondering where it went.

It depends on your own individual circumstances, but I would say you should have at least 6-12 months worth of money saved that will enable you to live decently if you were to lose your job or face some other similar event.

Having more is always a bonus though
