Lets be honest though, 80s was still development mode for the most part. Just hyper voices over drums and ABC rhymes. Things didn't get really good until 86 or 87. And I say that with wll respect towards the legends because they laid the blueprint for the 90s of course but 90s rappers took the torch and set everything on fire.
In the 80s, the only MCs rhyming with complex rhyme schemes were Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, and Guru. In the 90s that was the bar by 95. Not too mention we saw the rise of West Coast acts and Southern acts which made the prominent scene even more diverse in styles.
