the era of professional gaming journalism is coming to an end :mjcry: these obnoxious youtube fakkits are taking over sadly :scusthov:

I can see giant bomb going down next. gamespot maybe a litle while after. kotaku might last because their tabloid style journalism never fails to rile up the fanboys and produce clicks but who knows. IGN may be the last man standing when its all said and done

Giant Bomb and GameSpot are both owned by CBS they're probably good for now.

I think Destructoid is one of the few blogs that's independent so that would be my guess God forbid.

There is virtually no such thing as professional gaming journalism. These outlets are paid by ads revenue from video game companies and get their review materials directly from those video game companies for free as they see fit. They are extensions of game publishers ad divisions.

Its the facts. That "game journalism" segment is propped up by the dollars of the industry they're supposedly reporting on and critiquing. Much of the information they get and "report" on is stuff the pr people from the companies release to them directly. 90% of the news you get from these places comes from a Neo Gaf forum post. People on YouTube who buy these games on their own and review them on their own are more trustworthy.

Major online video game outlets are like Blockbuster Video's retail stores. They've outlived their usefulness and they've become pointless. YouTube and social media sites and even places like this have rendered them obsolete.

I mean look at stuff like this

They're basically complaining that game publishers locked them out for doing actual journalism. Why is that even worthy of an article? Why should it matter if they're real journalist that they don't get free goods and insider info from publishers?

Well, this holds true for most "journalism" these days.
