What's more creatively bankrupt a prequel or a requel?

I'm going with a prequel because it's basically backstory filler that can't really do anything major because it's ending is predetermined. At least a requel (remake masquerading as a sort of sequel) doesn't have to end a certain way. It could in theory break away from the original it's remaking.

Also lumping interquels (sequel to something older in the series but prequel to something else in the series) in with prequels since they're basically the same thing just sandwiched between to already released installments.

Prequels are most annoying and useless.

Villa Straylight.
Revenge of the Sith is one of my favorite Star Wars films. I don't hate Prequels. Requels feel creatively bankrupt even though I liked Halloween 2018, a lot of other horror films that tried to do that were ass.

Depends if the is enough lore to justify a prequel. Starwars is a terrible example if you are arguing against prequels. *See Andor

A well done prequel will enhance the movies taking place after it.

Requels never really have anything to offer, they don't make you appreciate the movies preceding it anymore, and they don't break new ground either. they are basically just elsewords, whatif luke was girl and the death star was an actual planet.

The main problem with prequels is that they often try to stretch them out to much.

We didn't need to see vader as a little boy, his past as pod racing didn't add anything. they could have just left it with clone wars (the series) and revenge of the sith.

The hobbit should've just be 1 movie. not 3.

I think prequels easily more fascinating. When done right, it'd be cool to see any backstory into a character to see what shaped them & give us insight into why they do what they do.

Sequels are usually like how do keep this money train going. Now we could potentially have a dumb ass cash grab watering down a good movie.

Thats no knock on sequels in general tho...

Prequels are harder to pull off. Sequels you can do whatever tf you want.
Prequels usually suck because you start the story already knowing where it will end up and if the pitch of a prequel was really all that interesting the main story would have started there anyway.

The best prequels are the ones that stand alone if needed. It might be a video game but my favorite prequel is Tales of Berseria because it's better than the game it's a prequel to, the fact that it's a prequel is inconsequential and mostly just adds easter eggs to the game, and the timeline of the series both are so far removed from each other the impact isn't all that great.

The worst prequels are the ones like the Star Wars ones that answer questions that didn't really need answering. Who Darth Vader was before he became the iconic character he is doesn't really matter and we didn't need to know. Getting to know Anakin didn't really do anything to help Vader as a character. I still feel like the Star Wars prequels exist so more Star Wars movies could be made but fundamentally they didn't have to change anything. The expectations for a sequel are higher than a prequel.

Prequels because they are providing extra details to a completed story. We don't need a Saints of Newark or Power: Young Ghost, it is just lazy writing/ideas.
