Check 'Frenzy', Hitchcock 1972. It's a little unconventional as far as a whodunit, but that one shocked me, when I first saw it a few years ago. I am always searching for good mysteries too, the bloodier the better, I don't care if they aren't great, I just want a surprise killer...I went on a binge of those movies a few weeks back, bottomed out with 'Jennifer 8', possibly the worst surprise killer/twist I have ever seen, or at least close.
