I would put this in the Booth usually but its not a hip hop related thread.

The 1st Dancehall song I ever heard I think its probably this:

I didn't get into Dancehall or know much about it till I moved to London. But I remember hearing this one before I ever came to London. Mr Vegas is my favourite DJ to this day.

I'm not really a Dancehall head. I do like it and enjoy it, know quite a lot about it, just not as much as I know about Hip Hop.

This...

My dad and moms would constantly play soca, dancehall, and roots reggae on car trips....

Nice.

Actually now that I think about it, the very 1st was probably this:

But it doesn't really count cause it was a very successful crossover. Everyone heard this song.

That's a favorite of mine too...

I think when it comes to reggae though, I'm ashamed to admit this...this might of been the first song I ever heard on a car trip to Virginia in like 1990/1991 when I was like 6 or 7..

I thought it was an actual reggae group when I first heard it...I mean, it is really reggae influenced...lol.

:laff:

Its still a pretty good song though :manny:

I like Reggae too but I don't know much about the genre. I know a lot more about Dancehall than I do reggae. I know about Bob obviously but not that much after that. But if its on the radio, I'll listen to it.

Pretty wack that his jamaican english and accent was all one big act...I felt lied to when I found that out.

He's still from Jamaica though. He can reach into that accent if he likes cause he's from there. He's got some piff songs out there too, apart from the obvious huge hits. This one is probably my favourite.

Yeah, I remember watching an MTV news interview with him back in the day. Apparently he worked on his jamaican accent when he was in the military. and used that to blow up.

:ohhh:

I didn't know that. But Shaggy lived in Jamaica till he was 18. He probably lost his accent after living in the US for so long.

Dancehall is my 2nd favourite music genre. After Hip Hop.
