I’m working full time now I’m not pulling about $40k a year

I know I need to do something for a better career/life

I’m thinking

trade school: electrician/ heating&air/

IT: take these compTia cert classes

What’s the quicker path, I’m a put my all into it

I think you should do both, but go with the trade route first. Maybe industries incorporate some type of technology within their business. Any thing from a website to a sophisticated ordering system. Learning how those industries are incorporating technology would be a huge benefit.

With trades you can usually find schooling for free, be apart of a union and earn money while you're learning as an apprentice. That route gets you to the money more quickly and as you gain more experience and move through your trade program, you'll earn more. Make no m mistake trade school is just as difficult, but just not as long as college. The IT courses are less strenuous, but the chances of finding a job before having an actual certification can be difficult, however some programs do partner with businesses for employment.

My boy is in a non union trade school for hvac right now

He keep having this notion that he finna see 6 figures after a few years as a hvac tech . This is the bs these for profit trade school push to reel in minority students

then he says I’m “being negative” for telling him he not going to see nowhere close to 6 figures as a non union worker. Hell, it’s union mfs who not touching 6:unimpressed:

nikka gon be lucky to see $18 an hour changing filters or other minor repairs for a residential company

If you want to make a fair wage with benefits, absolutely

why be paid less for your skill
I thought unions were extremely difficult to get in or they take a long time to call you back.

CompTIA certs (outside of S+) are only going to get you another 40-50k help desk job. Pursue a Tableau Data Analytics cert, M$ or AWS Cloud cert or even a Cisco cert for some real money.

The certs are faster money but the long term play will be in having a trade skill, building your own business and getting contracts with commercial buildings

I've seen it happen. Granted this was like 8-9 years ago, they were with a contracting company, they had some demostrated technical proficiency, ,ould write VB scripts, but they didnt have degrees, just certs.
