I don’t remember this being a big issues back in the early 00s.

Iverson and T-Mac were two of most popular nba players and they never achieved one title.
People weren’t going around calling Iverson a bum or Tmac a choker.

It didn’t change the way you would watch those players.
Fans kinda look at the finals as a team thing as it should be.

Nowadays it’s on some corny nerd shyt. You lose in the playoffs you got internet memes for a few days. Choke this , choke that. Player A ain’t as good as player B cause of rings.

As soon as unathletic people’s opinions on sports started gaining some merit(Skip Bayless), shyt went down hill.

After that Detroit series T-Mac got killed for choking, and the “never getting out of the first round” narrative followed him for years.

Anybody that actually watches/studies multiple players, doesn't fall for the players personas, and actually uses critical thinking knows that rings are a dumb metric to use.

It's better to use how well you actually played in the finals rather than the end result, because there are COUNTLESS examples in team sports of individual players on the losing team outplaying players on the winning team.

Social media has changed everything imo.

Also - yes people always had their favorite players and shyt but it seems like today there are more bandwagon fans and people who root for the top players instead of the whole team.

It's funny too because a lot of the players can give a damn about rings. They care mostly about the money and are okay with missing the playoffs lol.
