A reason can be why you did or didn’t do something. An excuse is why you didn’t do something, and usually, it involves some other person, or conflict, or whatever you come up with to avoid simply saying you are lazy, or don’t want to do something.

Right but if you tell someone “I was being lazy :yeshrug:” they’d be like don’t give me that excuse.

Refusing an excuse is just a way for the person on the other side to try and get the moral high ground and be the good one.

Excuses are bad. You’re giving me excuses.

im right Youre wrong.

but i think if you can listen to what someone is actually trying to tell you it might allow for some empathy and better communication. I get it though in the heat of the moment you just wanna win lol.

To me it’s whether if it was in your control or not. It’s about accepting ownership for your mistakes and communicating the issue ahead of time imo

say for instance I need you to pick me up from work and u are late

Reason: car broke down on the way

excuse: My girl didn’t wake me up in time

I would probably say some shyt like, “me not waking up on time is a reason, not an excuse. I can’t control when I wake up, as I wake up when nature tells me it’s time. I cannot control nature”

So it’s all semantics at the end of the day cause it’s people out here like me who excel at being full of shyt

I didn't realize I was creating excuses for myself until I had my supervisor pulled me to the side one day and repeated everything back to me after a performance review.

For some reason my whole life I was subconsciously creating excuses because I was scared to genuinely try or was resigned on being mediocre.

I was trying to hide from being accountable, it was always something or someone else on why I couldn't do something. Horrible mindset to have.

I would have told my supervisor to reevaluate my performance and meet me back at his office at 3 to redo the review. But naw, gotta be accountable to have growth so that was good you recognized that.
