How much would it cost? What's the chance of it happening politically? Would a "public option" so to speak help depress private college tuition? Would you support it? I don't know shyt about economics. Just wondering. :manny:

its more feasible at the state level i think. its done already in numerous countries but of course none as large as the united states. so select individual states would be the way to go. one thing to consider is trading off the money we spend to fund highschool education to instead fund college education. we spend a lot of money to prop up highschools around the country every year and all these highschool diplomas literally amount to nothing. its outdated and its literally become a gigantic waste of money.

It will never happen here as much as I wish it would.

:mindblown:
If this is what the state has wrought with control of k-12, what makes you think they should run higher education?

because k-12 is for children. its just for general education. higher education actually has relevance to the real world as its geared towards adults vs something like highschool which is just a billion dollar day care center. its foolish to allocate billions of dollars towards a teenage daycare center but not say to people who may want to be stem majors but cant because of exorbitant costs. think about it some more please.

im giving them zero credit. the highschool diploma is as outdated as the vcr and cassete tapes. its literally a relic of the past and worthless to the current reality of today's society. again, i stress, we are spending billions of dollars to prop this old system up.

Agreed, but I think its outdated and meaningless because of system, not the student, and the system is an example of govt. failure/incompetence.

We turn our children over to the state for 12yrs and when the state is done, all our children are good for is flipping burgers...:what: and you want to them control of college education?

yes. its works just fine in other countries. what precedent do you have to argue against it? or is this all just hypothesizing on your part?

at least we agree that highschool education has become a drain on society instead of a benefit.

Free education - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

sweden
finland
denmark etc
i believe in england they pay for graduate programs

its not unprecedented throughout the world. only here would the idea be considered so radical as it is.

you need to get your definitions right, nationalizing means government control, in other words it would be like the dept of education would run harvard and stanford and all other colleges and universities

if you are not suggesting that then you need to use the right vocab

if you think higher education should be free, then change your title to "I think higher education should be free" if you think the department of education should take control over all colleges and universities then keep your title

as far as free education im not necessarily against that but there is no such thing as free

here is a good article on sweden that has "free" education
College in Sweden is free but students still have a ton of debt. How can that be? – Quartz

i think in the us we should strive to make higher education affordable and accesible, i wouldnt go any further than that
