I was six. Saved up money given to me by parents and family members and had my mom buy me the CD around my birthday. I don't think she even took my money. I had no idea what was going, didn't understand the lyrics to half of the songs, but I was captivated. I thought they were the best thing ever. 14 years later, I got the chance to see them at Lollapalooza and it was one of the best moments of my life. I've never been more connected to a musical act more in my life. The connection doesn't even make sense. I grew up in Chicago and no around me really listened to Outkast like that at the time. Except my cousin. He borrowed my original Stankonia CD when I was eight and never gave it back. fukk that guy.
I should add that the only reason my mom let me have the CD was because she heard Ms. Jackson and thought Outkast was family-friendly
Then directly after Ms. Jackson Killer Mike comes on the mic and rattles off
"Our shyt don't mix like yay and lukewarm water
Better make it hotter splash ice and watch it rock up
I oughta duct tape your infant daughter"
I was six so it was cool.
