What's The Logic In Felons/Ex-Felons Not Being Able to Vote?

It's clearly not a deterrent on committing a crime. I don't think anyone ever decided he was going to rob a gas station, then thought to himself, "Nah, I'm gonna wanna vote in a couple of years", and then decided not to commit said crime.

I'm talking about the official reason/logic, if any is given by states or governments, because I know in some states ex-cons can vote and in others they can't, sometimes you gotta wait a certain amount of years, et cetera.

throughout history this country has thought of creative ways to deprive blacks the right to vote. this is one of them. i know all groups have felons/ex-felons, but that law plus targeting blacks for crimes makes it a way to deprive the right to vote from a lot of blacks

Somewhere between OH & NV
They've made their mistake, served their time & they're still being treated as the outcasts. I actually wrote an article about felons and the hardship they endure after serving say 4-6 yrs in federal prison. They can't find jobs, rent homes, vote,etc... Let felons live :damn: we all make mistakes! some of us just don't get caught :scheme:

Yup, this is what I know the answer is.

I was just wondering if there was any sort of official reasoning ever given.

Now i agree they shouldnt be discriminated against on jobs, housing etc. You never really pay your debt to society and america needs to change this

They can still vote in some states as long as they re-register when they get out of prison. In Ohio you can vote while in jail if you're in for a misdemeanor. You can also vote if you're in a halfway house or on probation (even if its for a felony). And if you're in prison for a felony but you haven't been convicted yet you still vote as well.

Everybody makes mistakes but people like Sandusky and folks like that shouldnt have a right. It should vary on crimes though :manny:
