Hyphens are important if you come from an important family. You want to be readily identified by the name.

If your people not important and your name doesn’t hold weight then there’s no point for the hyphen.

Maybe someone taking your name is that important to YOU. Some people dont give a damn as long as they get all the other benefits which includes financial and other stuff.

Hyphenated isnt exactly "not taking your name" but I still wouldn't accept it and you couldnt even converse with me about it unless you are royalty or something.
