What's up with all these unnecessary remakes these days?

Originality has nothing to do with it. It has more to do with investors wanting return on an investment and the new way studios makes movies.

studios want "sure money". original ideas typically don't make as much money as franchises. Glad Gravity made some money.

I know this is how it works. Its fukking pathetic tho. At least back in the day they took chances on original ideas. Movies still make quite a lot of money in the box office. Its not hurt as bad as music sales wise, so they should definitely try to go back to taking more chances.

I am not sure about all that. Even back then Hollywood did not do major blockbusters unless it was a well established idea ex the ten commandments and gone with the wind.

Not blockbusters but at least a lot of films were being made on a lower scale. I mean, when it comes to blockbusters they want something that is really gonna sell but there were lots of films getting made that weren't on that level and most of them were original ideas.

Now a days they just do corny ass, terrible remakes. Like fukking "Total Recall". That was something right there that really didn't need to be remade. Same for the "Nightmare in Elm Street" remake although that one wasn't too bad. Now they are about to release the "Carrie" remake which I thought was totally unnecessary. I also heard rumours of a "Goodfellas" remake. I hope that one doesn't happen.

A lot of independent movies get made. They are hard to see though if you live outside a major city.

Yeah, true. I'd say these days independent films is where its at but then again its always been like that. They've always had more interesting ideas than Hollywood. Hollywood has been bullshyt for decades.
True another reason is the way studios charge movie theaters to show there movie. Because of what they have to pay upfront they want a movie that will bring in lots of people and more than likely that is a something unoriginal. I think if movies were cheaper to show then you would see more original ideas in major theaters.
