I don't have kids, but I'll be damned if my son or daughter is running around without my last name. To me that's an important part of having kids and actually leaving a legacy behind of your family name. You have women out there that actually do this type of thing and stand by it for whatever reason. I've also heard of women tripping if they're with a dude who has a child outside the relationship and the child bearing the fathers last name.

Most of the time it stems from the father having wanting nothing to do with the kid. So, if your dad was a deadbeat and just disappeared aftre your moms preggo announcement, would you want that nikka's last name? :usure:

Part of it is feminism. Had a professor in college tell the women in the class that their children should carry the mother's last name since women carry the child and birth the child. :dwillhuh: She is married with two kids by the way. Her husband lookin like a step daddy on paper :mjlol:

My brother have my mother's last name because they were born out of wedlock. That's how my mom did it. I don't know if that was a common rule or what

This

The child had to take the mother last name at birth if the parents wasn't married. But was allowed to change it a couple of days after the birth. This was common all the way until the 90's.

My brother was born with my mother maiden name, because my parents wasn't married at the time. They changed my brother last name to my father last name a couple days later.

Floyd Mayweather is a good example

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (born Floyd Joy Sinclair; February 24, 1977) - his parents wasn't married and he was born with his mother last name. His last name was changed to his father last name later on.
