That's how it used to be in many places before 9/11.

9/11 was long ago that people forgot life before the TSA. You used to be able to walk your friends/family/lovers to their gate as the airplane was boarding. No ticket or credentials needed to walk through the airport.

even if the flight takes off in an hour the world will make sure they make it if the plot demands
