This. Not only this... we didn't use to eat all the time. Our bodies are built for endurance. We fail at almost every other physical attribute compared to most animals, except endurance.
Like Horses, we sweat to regular our temperature to maintain our high performance in physical activity. Horses are obviously have better physiques but we are better are temp regulations because we have more sweat glands across our body. We arguably have better endurance, pound for pound than horses because we require less food to operate at the same levels.
And like dogs and horses, we produce endorphins when we run.
There's more but our bodies crave a high calorie diets because we are built to move. Our seditary lifestyle is a recent development and its slowly killing us. Our bodies are efficient for what it was meant to do.
One of the downfalls to human advancement is that we develop systems and tools faster than we can biologically adapt. In the grand scheme of things, agriculture and farming hasn't really been around that long. And throughout human history, most civilizations didn't have the same access to high calorie and high fat foods. Most of the time our diets were based on what we could get. Not what we liked. Muscle mass is the cheat code. The more you can put on, the more calories you can consume without storing fat.
