long, but interesting, article about the development of the next Battlefield. suits talking about reaching 100 million players :mjlol:

it just seems like a fool's errand chasing trends, when it takes 5+ year to development the game. game ends up releasing behind the curve, or gets lost in the mix of constantly changing priorities as they try to incorporate the latest trends

Suits taking over, too much money in gaming.

As you said trend chasing is the outcome.

If you're going to spend several hundreds of millions of dollars on developing a game, you kinda do need to chase proven trends to mitigate some risk. Even Elden Ring had tons of Ubisoft open world bloat.

With that said, EA aint got a clue and is going to fumble this BF like the last 3 BF games. I'm praying I'm wrong though.

I think a game like Battlefield also has the option to double down on the things that made games like BF3 so great

That is exactly what they should do, and are allegedly doing according to devs (i.e. trying to recapture the BF3 and BF4 feeling). It's the rumors of them trying to do BR and Extraction again after the Firestorm and Haha Zone flops which is concerning. They apparently also have some weird innovation for Battle Passes too which doesn't look good.

There is lowkey an opportunity for them with all the Warzone and Apex fatigue going on right now, however. And they probably recognize that, which is why they want to expand the scope with BF6 to make a whole MP suite like COD (various paid and free modes), instead of just a traditional BF style game (Conquest / Rush / TDM / etc).
