Looking forward to reading it. It’s basically about his personal connection to the group and how their story connects with larger cultural and creative themes. Journalists write interesting books about musicians all the time. I hate that De La responded in this way. I hope they reconsider their perspective.

I'm confused, what's the issue with releasing an unauthorized biography? This is a completely normal thing

I get that De La has overcome some terrible label shyt and lost a prominent member, but unless there's something factually wrong with the material, they don't really have a leg to stand on here

my guess is De La is feeling some type of way because they feel it's solely their story to tell and dealing with the loss of Trugoy and then im sure some of it stems from their issues with not owning their catalog and possibly just not feeling in control of their thing once again

but fans are reassuring them all over social media that the author did right by them and honored them and that he's not some author just looking to cash in on some book for a cash grab

That makes sense. It's just funny seeing people show that they have no idea what unauthorized biographies are and that they've likely never set foot in a bookstore and looked at the music biographies section lol

I'm almost done with it. I thought De la soul had input on it. I had no idea it was unauthorized. I knew it had to be a reason it's 100 pages less than Doom's book. shyt, I may return it now since I know the truth. There are only 10 chapters in the book and I'm on chapter 7. The book really doesn't show De la Soul in a negative light at all. It's really all postive and shows how genius they were praising them each chapter. Now I'm anticipating their autobiography. There are some things in it I didn't know so it reads like a 33 1/3 series book, but about all of their albums. Yeah, it's not a big book at all for a group with 35 years in the game, and it has no pictures. Look at the size of it compared to Doom's book.

. My suggestion about any person is to read their autobiography and a biography about them because they will not expose all of their faults in an autobiography. Ones that I suggest:

The confessions of Rick James: Memoirs of a Super Freak (get the Rick james version and AVOID the David Ritz edited version years after James' death) and Superfreak : The life of Rick James
James Brown autobiography
and biography about him titled The One, written by RJ Smith
Miles Davis autobiography Miles and his biography Milestones
MJ Moonwalker autobiography and extensive biography The music The Madness The Whole Story
Sam cooke books Dream Boogie and You send Me
