Whatsapp? How do you use this?

So I just downloaded it so I can add a new contact but there's no option to add a new contact.

Am I only allowed to add contacts already in my address book? If that's the case, then what's the purpose of this?

You need the phone number to whatsapp. Add to contacts then add to whatsapp. Not that difficult.....

Doesn't auto add. Once the number is in your contacts and visible go to whatsapp and hit the +.....

I still dont understand this app in the smartphone era? Almost all plans come with unlimited texting so if you wanna talk to non iphone people or people on other networks you dont get charged anymore. Why use this? Serious question

Idk how big it is here in the US but pretty sure it's much more popular internationally where they don't have unlimited messaging plans and it's biggest asset is that you can message any one in the world on any carrier with it

When you looking at your contacts top right hand corner there is a small envelope looking thing with a + sign

Make sure that the friends who you wish to message have WhatsApp installed on their phones.

If they do not show up under the Favorites screen (Select contact screen on Android), carefully add their numbers to your phone contacts:

1. Add the contact to your phone contacts
   • Enter the number the same as you would if you were to make a phone call to that person. Double check to make sure you entered the number correctly.
2. If this is an international phone number, do not use any exit codes or leading 0s. Start all international phone numbers with a + sign, followed by the country code. For specific examples and instructions, see this article.
3. Open WhatsApp and refresh your Favorites list (Select contact list on Android).
