I remember back when that song dropped in 2000-2001, he name dropped so many legends and former kingpins I remember there was threats on his life. I know he got shot 9 times but I'm not sure if that was due to the song or because Kenneth McGriff had it out for him bc of the whole Murder Inc and Ja Rule/ Irv Gotti shyt.

But at that time in 99-00-01 most of the former kingpins 50 mentioned in that track were either all dead or locked up (McGriff, Alpo, Baby Wise, Pappy Mason, etc)

Someone who know the history shed some light on this.

Dudes wanted to hurt him, Ghostface even had the Clyde skit about it masking his voice. On another note, I remember somebody trying to compare Ghetto Quran to Nas name dropping Alpo on “Represent”

I don’t know but that’s a top 5 song from him. Power Of The Dollar is better then most of his other albums.

Agreed, one of my fav 50 songs. Alpo was locked up in 2000 but Nas mentioning him on Memory lane (along w Supreme team) is far different than all the name dropping 50 did in Ghetto Quran

I remember the whole Ghostface and Raekwon shyt but that was because of How To Rob, not Ghetto Quran

I legit remember Ken McGriff and others had hits out on 50 at the time bc of all the names mentioned in that song

Californ-i-a by way of BK
Mcgriff wasn't mad at that song, he was mad because 50 disrespected him by not showing up to their meeting. 50 was beefing with JA, potentially fukking with his money, Preme just wanted to have a sit down, and 50 wasn't with it. So....

Corey D dropped "Dedication Rhyme" in 1991 shouting out all the gangsters and killers from Southside Queens. Everyone loved it.

"Went to see Bimmy, got an ounce a little something
Went on 109 and I got the shyt pumpin''" - Corey D

Exactly

Dudes revised history by claiming that kingpins sent shooters after 50 for a song that barely rated or got burn on mixtapes. Before he blew up, 50 was just another goon turned rapper just like dozens of others at the time in NYC.

The street magazines blew up all the Crack Era kingpins of that era, anyway.
