Depends how you look at it. I met a 12 yr old last year whos favorite rapper was eminem . His favorite song was rap God. He knew all of ems new shyt word for word, but never heard his 1st 3 albums.

Jay Z hasn’t been musically relevant since 2011 thanks to the Kanye album
4:44 & everything he dropped after were duds
last great album was 2007 AG

I always said Hov would be Ludacris status right now if it wasn’t for him being a boss & marrying Beyoncé
Luda just stopped rapping cuz the movie money was too good, but if youve heard any of his freestyles or features in the last fews. He still sounds amazing actually even better than he used to

As in no longer in the public conscious/part of youth culture. Legacy artists can and do sell out tours and have hit number one albums if they drop but they don't need to drop consistently and you don't see them in celebrity news, have 20-somethings debate and discuss about.
I'd say the WTT album era was the last Jay-Z album era that he wasn't looked at or promted as just a Legacy act.

@CrimsonTider What you think?

In rap to me a legacy act is when there is no expectation for your project. Whether it’s good or bad quality wise. Or the sales subpar compared to your prime.

i said that to say this. Its still mad expectations for a Jay album artistically and sales wise.

Every older rapper can put out bullshyt and it don’t sell with no real discussion at all

Thats not the case with Jay Z

if jay drop next month and it sell 140k first week. He getting clowned. Not just in a forum the whole internet .If his album weak like Wayne he gonna dragged 3x worst. Legacy artists don’t have that type of pressure. Jay does

how u Jay Z da goat and only sell 100k :camby:

Drake kendrick and Cole will soon be legacy artists imo but they all 3 could and will prolly still have hits

I dont see jay being able to make a hit anymore at all not as a main solo
They already kind of are. It’s just there’s nobody to replace them

I don't necessarily think a legacy artist can't sell. Often times the legacy status keeps them selling.

For Jay probably post-TBA. Definitely by BP3 MCHG.

Bey never really escaped it. Post-Lemonade.
