For me it was this.

It was already over at that point anyway, but that was like the nail in the coffin to any semblance of a hope WCW would come back.

Everyone remembers the NWO shifting the balance in WCW’s favor, but what kept the ratings war a tie pre-NWO was WCW had a lot of good technical and aerial wrestling matches with innovative moves that appealed to their core remaining NWA/JCP audience. And that was mostly Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero, Saturn and the other cruiserweights and some lucha libre guys.

When those four showed up on Raw and gave the Outlaws the beats and got a huge pop it was like the WWF ripped WCW’s heart out of its chest.

It was over to me when shortly after the Finger Poke of Doom, Hogan and Nash were faces, Ric Flair was a crazy heel, and Goldberg was nowhere near the title scene. If there was a single show that made young me stop switching back and forth, it was the 3 hour Nitro where the entire first hour had no wrestling at all.

A month or so into 99. Once The Rock vs Austin Wrestlemania build got going, Austin vs Vince in the cage, etc and WCW wasnt really following up on the Goldberg loss and NWO getting back together, it seemed over. By Summer 99 for sure it was obvious that it was over.

By summer 99 it was officially a wrap for wcw.
Hogan returning to red and yellow. And nobody giving a fukk. Goldberg somewhere way back in the mid card really just another guy in the shuffle. Rick steiner main eventing alongside nash and sid.Jericho.jumping ship making other wcw guys do the same seeing him being used as a star
