I was watching some old 2004 ppvs on the Network, at WM20 he opened against Big Show and the msg crowd was :krs:for him when he gave Show the f-u. By Summerslam 04 he was getting Ambrose-like cheers, and by the fall of 04 he was the hottest shyt out. Full crowd cheers from all groups, the hoes screaming when he took off his throwbacks, the bros cherring him too.

At wm21 the crowd was into him but not crazy, but that crowd seemed dead the whole night.

I stopped watching every ppv at this point but I checked his match with Jericho at summerslam 05 and by then half the crowd was booing him.

Did they  by putting him against such a smark darling by Jericho? Or was it a wrap before then? I kinda fell out of the loop around this time so I didn't watch it play out live. Was it an underdog is no longer an underdog thing? Speak on it ese

Split chants against Jericho by Summerslam 05

IIRC they had a Loser Gets Fired rematch the following night where Y2J was mostly cheered despite being a clear bad guy and the crowd completely booed Cena's win

100% boos against Angle in 05

So about 4 months after WM21, when he first won the title

Jericho and Angle were well respected vets with large fanbases at the time as opposed to JBL who NOBODY liked

Kurt Angle exposed him at the September 2005 ppv yet Cena went over and retained the WWE title also tradionalists aka "white redneck cacs" rebelled against his spinner belt

The first night there the crowd was hot for his stuff with Christian. They foolishly threw a great feud in the bushes after 3 weeks. The Jericho is cheap line on the highlight reel in July is the moment where he lost momentum. He delivered the line like it was "Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ass", but it totally fell flat and he made it worse by going on about cheap sauce and calling him Y2cheap multiple times. Split crowd at summerslam just like already mentioned, and by October or the survivor series, the crowd totally turned on him. It should be telling that when edge cashed in on him and triple h shyt all over him on the mike, the two biggest heels on the roster got cheered.

It had nothing to do with the belt, though it was ugly as shyt and the undisputed title belt should've stayed. They made the mistake of trying to feed every respected vet they could to him. They way overestimated his popularity.

At WM 21, they kind of booed that thumbs up thing before he hit JBL with the finisher. And it was loud that night for Eddie, Batista, Taker, and Hogan.

They turned on him against Kurt Angle at Taboo Tuesday 05 in San Diego. Cena and Michaels both got booed against Angle. Even got heat in Anaheim the night before. That's when it all got out of hand and the commentators were trying to cover for it unlike the split chants at Summerslam against Jericho.

Lol@that rap video in the backyard playing a wigger getting booed out so hard on Raw. They just said it "fukk it" and went to commercial.

I wonder if that's gonna happen to Reigns. Trash in the ring, stupid catch phrase, loved by hoes and kids, pushed down the audiences throats :lupe:

Edge getting cheered wasn't that far-fetched considering he had a "cool" character, was loved by the smarks, and was a fresh face in the main event scene. But HHH getting cheered heavily to win the belt by a smark crowd in 2006 still blows my mind. Dudes were damn near in tears when he lost.

The hate for Cena was real that night :jamesbrown:

The two most hated wrestlers of 2005/2006 were heavily cheered. He was booed out of his hometown at summerslam against edge. THAT should be when you realize you and him have failed in being and creating your top face. If they didn't see it at wrestle mania, then they had to have there. Most crowds aren't the ecw crowd though.
