When it comes to throwback hip hop, people only have a problem when it has an NY sound

*New school rapper makes a throwback west coast joint*

":stopitslime:get this :flabbynsick:shyt the fukk outta here :camby:It's 2013, no one wants to hear this shyt"

Big Krit and K Dot are two of my favorite rappers. but if they had similar bars and content but with a throwback NY vibe I doubt some of ya'll would stan them as hard.

so why is that?

i like all old classic shyt regardless of region, but NY hasnt updated into a new style thats original yet. yall keep that 90s boom-bap shyt consistant to the point its redundant and obscure and then bash new occuring talented NY artist like flatbush zombiez

I rarely hear rappers making throwback West/South music. Kendrick Lamar and Big KRIT? :what:

The only time I see people complain about a throwback NY sound is when it's the artist's whole gimmick (Joey Bada$$)

Not seeing the point of your thread breh... you gonna need some better examples. Cuz right now this is sounding like yet another wack NY thread.

Mack Wilds made great 90s sounding beats on his album. Stop with the lazy Jazz music and focus on more vibrant production that can break stereos.

Krit's earlier work and what got him a lot of his buzz sounded like 90's era UGK. Part of the reason for Good Kid Maad City's acclaim was how much some of its themes and overall sound harkened back to 90s west coast(the title track with Mc Eiht being the biggest example). Some of the biggest hits on the radio today have a Bay Area sound(Red Nose, My nikka, YOLO, every Tyga song, etc) on the underground tip, Raider Klan gets critical acclaim for basically copying 90s era Three Six Mafia. Those are just the examples off the top of my head

the point is, these are all throwbacks to early 90s southern and west coast hip hop and they all seem to get a better response both critically and commercially than throwbacks to 90s era NYC hip hop.

Joey Badass and Action Bronson are bigger than Raider klan and Krit though so what are you talking about?
