This saying was most likely written by a white dude who never reached the bottom of the barrel. Maybe, they went half way down or even one-third of the way down. Not all the way down.
I'm not being a "the glass is half-full type of person". What I'm saying is if you really at the bottom, then you wouldn't make a saying like, when life hands you a bucket of poop, make poop-ade. It's ridiculous.
