Since we believe they're the best 2 players. When the last time we had the Top 2 players in the league face each other in Finals?

This is the first Finals where the two best players of the NBA, MVP and MVP runner up, and of the same position are facing each other.

Last time we have had the MVP and MVP Runner Up was Jordan vs. Malone in 97 & 98. Last time, we had something similar to this situation was when Hakeem went against Shaq, but David Robinson was arguably better and Jordan came back by then.

I think the question would have been better had it not been framed in the context of "best player" vs. "second best player".....too subjective.

Last time the MVP faced the scoring champion, though, was '97 (Karl Malone vs. Jordan) and I believe '93 (Barkley vs. Jordan). Before that, you gotta go back to the 1960s.

O'Neal and Kobe were the best and second best players in 2002 but were on the same team. Some people would argue Bron and Wade as 1-2 last year but again, same team. Maybe Iverson-Shaq in 2001 or Joran-Malone in 1998.
