The Barbados Government Information Service hosted the screening of the documentary, "Diggers" directed by Roman Foster. This documentary highlights the men from the Caribbean who laboured on one of the most dangerous areas, the Culebra Cut, but received no recognition.

On September 21, 2014, the National Library presented the fifth in our Distinguished Lecture Series held at the Institute of Jamaica Lecture Hall. The lecture was presented by acclaimed Jamaican writer Olive Senior, author of such works as "Gardening in the Tropics (poetry), Summer Lightening (short stories), Dancing Lessons (novel) and the A-Z of Jamaican Heritage. Her presentation, titled "Colon Man and the Panama Experience", explored the participation of Jamaicans in the construction of the Panama Canal.
