I hear shyt like "We're becoming desensitized to violence" all the time on this website and other websites, but can someone tell me at what point wasn't violence the norm for humans?

Humans used to go to things like public executions, lynchings, and they would watch people fight to death at coliseums for entertainment. There are so many other examples of violence being shown casually throughout human history too.

So at what point was it that seeing violence wasn't normal? :patrice:

it really depends on what that means.

i think i'm pretty sensitized to it, but i also have watched boxing and mma for almost 2 decades now.. i've seen people throw down to solve their issues unsanctioned for yrs too... so a fist fight? if that's considered extreme violence, then yeah i'm desensitized to it.

i am still very sensitive to shyt like war/gore/gun violence personally. but i know some yall liveleak brehs are on another level tho :demonic:

Not in the past.

They didn't have internet or shyt to occupy their time.

MFs used to watch public hangings or gladiators fight lions for fun.

People in power used to think of crazy ass punishments for their citizens.

Ain't nobody in 2022 thinking of the blood eagle or brazen bull.

We have so much non violent things to distract us that we're probably less desensitized now than we've ever been with the option to become desensitized at will.

Right now I could watch a heartwarming movie and the next minute watch hours and hours of violence throughout human history. :damn:

Arguably we've gotten a lot better at not doing that stuff as time elapses. Everythng from antiquity to the middle ages to colonial era to the 90s was some bullsht as far as violence goes.

Violence might die out as a concept once zoomers take over. They are the most accepting/accomodating generation that ever existed. They picked up the millenial "say no to bulying" concept and and gave it steroids effectively making the public ridicule or beating of weaker groups taboo. Everything from fat people, to gays, to religious minorities, to arabs, to trans, to black people, to poor people etc is off limits. And truly its a good thing if we being honest.

I had two quick convos at work last week; one convo with a gen X and another with an early zoomer and the difference is stark. After having the kinda convo with the zoomer which captain planet himself would be proud of, i coundnt help but cringe at how beligerant and abrassive the gen X(er) naturally was. Coincidentally, as we were speaking, one of those crossdressing bruce willis looking trans people walked by our workplace window in a dress, and gen X (er) immediatly went on a rant wishing for the days when "faq***ts would be beat in the streets". I dont even support the rainbow people like that, but i was personally disturbed at the Gen X(ers) violent and intollerant viewpoint on the world. :picard:
