I would think for me, its that you don't fail until you quit. And if you are not successful in your endeavor, you learn from it, move on, and apply those lesson to future situations. You don't fail in life until you stop trying.

Another one might be don't look for rewards for everything you do thats right. Do right for the sake of doing right, that way you will do right with no incentive, and it will come back to you when you least expect it.

All of those are pretty great OP. You have to adjust your guidance to kids these days tho, with the nature of their reality in a highly socialized world. There is a bad amount of 3rd place winner mentality these days too. I counter this with my seeds, by ensuring they are competitive. Competitive not for winning sake, but to always seek the best from themselves.

The most important thing to teach my children will be about their identity. My wife and I will explain who we are and what values we hold dear, how these values have been passed down for generations in our families, what those values mean as African Americans, and how that relates to the history of our people. Our children need to understand that regardless of whether the people have self respect, our values and our history can be a guide whenever there is doubt.
