Where do you rank Sean Payton all time as a HC?

Been thinking about Payton and the job he's done with the Broncos this year and since he's taken over. Improved every year win total, on track for the 1 seed and a bye this year.

Historically - won a SB, won his division multiple times, never really had a bad season in the NFL(worse record-wise has been 7-9). Over 60% win percentage lifetime.

Somehow I don't think people view him as an all time great HC. Is it the Bountygate thing? I'm confused.

Those "7-9 Purgatory" years wasting Brees do not help his rep either. :francis:

And his nut-ass obsession with the "Random #s" :jordanfacepalm:

Plus, he is arrogant as fukk. :pachaha:

Tough to say. Always hard to compare coaches from decades ago to current coaches. I'd say he has a few things going for him to rank him high, and also a few things that could hurt his ranking.

Going For Him:

-Has a Super Bowl win, and it came against an all-time great QB.
-Has turned around two franchises. Wasn't just winning division titles with nine or ten wins, but with eleven or more wins consistently.

Going Against Him:

-Missed the playoff three straight years with a HOF QB, and Brees was not playing poor football then. He was still putting up big numbers.
-Bounty-gate. I don't really think that should hurt his ranking as a coach, but it definitely has an impact on how people will view him. However, I really think most people completely forgot about bounty-gate and him being suspended for an entire season.:dead:.

You don't hear about bounty-gate much anymore. Looking back, Goodell used to lay down the hammer far more than he has in recent years. He hit the Patriots for a first round pick for the absurd spy-gate situation, suspended Payton for an entire year, took a first round pick from the Patriots for the scientifically debunked deflate-gate situation, and ended Ray Rice's career.:wow:.

Blows my mind that the Saints didn't have to forfeit a single first round pick.

 Y'all should have received more for bringing CENSORED to the league and :beli: pulling that con on Sean P. to take him off his hands. :pacspit:

And Brees being optimistically loyal to that bland scrub :smh:

Stuff like that is why he never was voted MVP  :snoop:

Depends on who you ask. The Coli -- or players, coaches, etc - in the profession? The latter views him as elite. College players, he attracts free agents. His offense and defensive players talk him up. Vance Joseph was just talking about all this stuff he's learned from Payton

This is the 4th organization that hes made an instant major impact. He took bum ass Kerry Collins, and created an offense that made him serviceable. That Lions offense you see today, that's Paytons from 20 yrs back. Giants hired Payton and went to a SB

Dallas went (5-11) 3 yrs in a row. Parcells brought Payton wit em, and they instantly went 10-6. Found Romo for Dallas, who hadn't been able to find a QB, since Aikman.

Saints. You already know. Perennial bottom feeder, who's city had also been crushed by a major disaster. Instant rise out the basement, wins a SB

Broncos. Another bottom feeder for the last 8 yrs. Team handicapped itself with the Russ trade making things look bleak for the future. Hire Payton, Instant rise out the basement

If he wins with the Broncos, he'll be the first coach to ever win a SB with 2 teams :yeshrug:
