Thats true, but how many of them would actually understand the importance???

And some of them didnt listen to wayne before 2k3

I'm from the South. We been listening to it well before 2k3. Never heard Gillie name spoken once.

I wonder how many people knew Large Pro played the Gillie role for Ilmatic circa 93-94?

:russ:. ..this Gillie shyt is random Internet message board narrative GOAT Ducktales level officially now

breh....

I might have been one of the few nikkas on the east coast who went out and copped 500 degreez..

nikkas were not bumping or playing wayne at all up here until his style changed and he got down with the dipset...

My point is,he was in artist development mode after 500 degreez up until 2003ish because his career was in trouble..

He had to improve to break out of the regional look that everyone outside of the south was giving him...

Mikkey even said CMR spent the whole budget on the Birdman album....

nikkas were in panic mode

Not many...

Most people arent interested in the technical details of shyt like this...

They just care about the music..

look at jay and UGK or Jay doing HA with juvenile.....We know why he did it,but it will only matter to people who look forward to talking about stuff like this...

dipset.... so 2005? 2006? The only interaction before that was a shoutout "Where You At"

I don't know if he was in crisis but more so he was transitioning from child rapper to adult rapper. You see child stars carefully try to transition all the time. It just so happened to go smooth with Wayne. Plus, Cash Money was in turmoil in general at that point with all the shyt going on in-house.

I never looked at wayne as a child rapper...I understand your point though...

But Cash Money as a label was in panic mode during that time....

Imagine if wayne wasnt so scared to leave like juvenile said he was?

i disagree with @360dagod when he says that cash money was in panic mode before the carter.

cash money was doing just fine. wayne was the one whos career was in panic mode.

in fact, when the carter 1 dropped, it was initially slept-on for months while the big tymers and JUVENILE shined brighter. remember juvenile was still tecnically a member of the label at the time. and thats when slow motion, nolia clap(rap-a-lot release but still), etc etc were out.

to go further, cash money really hasnt been chit as a label since wayne blew up outside of just wayne & baby. thats unless you count that young money trash as cash money.

but yea, i see what youre getting at tho.

Not outside of the Internet.

outside the internet, gillie's name was attached to the carter from the start.

the internet was late actually, and didnt catch on until it became a scandal.

We played '500 Degreez' a lot out in San Diego, I don't know if that was a region thing or just my group of friends....but we fukked with it, thats when Wayne really started catching my attention with the bars, he was spitting that dope boy shyt, which he would perfect on 'The Carter', but tracks like 'Where U At', 'Go Hard', '500 Degreez', and 'Bloodline' were dope as fukk....The production leaned a little heavy on those not so polished Mannie Fresh style beats, and were repetitive and cheap sounding, as far as the Gillie thing....I mean, it's right there, he was already headed in that direction, regardless of how the album was received... he just needed some cleaner Mannie Fresh beats, and perfected his bars, maybe Gillie lent a hand in some small way, as far as album vision or whatever...but the whole theory that Gillie wrote the album or is responsible for anything is ludicrous....

wayne just came out out of nowhere in the mainsteam honestly. i mean that in the sense of listening to cash money for a long time too.
he always played third tier to bg and juvenile in the hot boys but i could recognize his talent at the same time. for being as young as he was the guy was pretty talented. you have to realize he started out on the bg'z album, but i really started to get into him once dedication 2 and the carter albums had come out. i remember that gillie gangsta grillz tape too tho. that shiit was nice as hell. i'm not saying who influenced who, considering that i heard wayne long before i ever listened to gillie. wayne's style definetly changed....there's no question about that. can i say what caused it? nah.

None of this was true. Not atleast in GA summer of 04, fall of 04 or post Katrina. My cuzzo bought it day it came out and bumped it the whole summer. Came back the school and everybody rapping Go DJ, BMJR or whatever... Once all them NO kids relocated to my school district it was a wrap. Zoes from Miami, kids from other parts of the South, shyt even the kids who came down from NYC we put on. I don't know where you from breh?

Yea I honestly dont even count juve's 2nd run because we knew he did it just to be free...but technically he was still signed...

the carter 1 was a slow burn but that is credited to wayne's strong fanbase....He was really grinding..go dj didnt drop as a video until the carter 1 was gold...Bring it back got minimal burn at least up here..

he was selling basically off the strength of being on tour{mixtapes} and Cash Money's grassroots campaign..

CMR hasnt done much besides Glasses Malone and Baby....Its alll YOUNG MONEY....

And stunna just collects

Yea...I cant speak from the south cuz I dont know how he was perceived down there during the time after 500 degreez up until the Carter...

But from what I heard, nikkas were energized about the carter 1 based off the mixtapes he was popping out with...And I do remember he was living on the road during that time..He was touring his ass off...I was with the Universal Records E-team that used to request Lil Wayne records at the radio stations in my area...I dont even think that exists anymore..lol

I know up here, nikkas were not bumping the man at all....Go DJ is what kinda started him up here, then the dipset co-sign took him to to another zone..lol
