I will take Patti Labelle over Beyonce.
The thing about it is...and this is sort of unpopular among Beyonce stans...is that the more you start comparing Beyonce to other singers (past and present), the less impressive Beyonce becomes.

Pure popularity is hard to gauge.

If we're talking talent, influence, creativity, discography, etc....

Marvin Gaye
Jimi Hendrix
Michael Jackson
Janet Jackson
Whitney Houston
Tina Turner
Ike Turner
Pac
Biggie
James Brown
Chuck Berry
Muddy Waters
Miles Davis
Little Richard
Billie Holiday

I mean, the list could go on and on and on for me personally.....those are just popular names that jumped in my head. Blacks have such an amazing music legacy.

Honestly, when it comes to just being a POP PERFORMER, I prefer Rihanna's single-centric career to Beyonce's somewhat more consistent but somewhat more safe career.

Hell...If Jay had actually retired after The Black Album, I'd probably put him above her as far as just who I like more. He's just been on cruise-control for so long that I kinda be lookin' at his career like :scusthov:

Edit : Now that I think about it...Rihanna is probably just straight up more popular than Bey. Of course, Rihanna is one of the biggest of all time so no spite against Bey. It's just weird that a contemporary is possibly up there if not surpassing her.

The group being put together in 1990 was for your edification.

:snoop: the album won awards, she was 17. In her next album she was 18,19....(why am I even having this conversation)...she was a teen star :snoop:

again, I don't get your point.

My overall point is that few black artists have held onto the success that she has dating back to when she was a teen star and well into adulthood.

It was irrelevant and she wasn't a star as a kid (the album won 1 award and they only released two singles. That doesn't make her a star). I was just correcting you. That's all. Moving on.

Beyonce music isnt really all that great to me. She has songs that I might really like at the moment but I wouldnt want to hear them yrs down the line. She is talented and very popular. But super overrated.

Top 5?
Top 10?
Top 20?

We know its a few above her off top like Jordan, Michael Jackson, 2pac, Lex Luger

but she gota be up there tho, she has a damn near cult following of insecure big females and homosexuals

Top 20 (or 10) among female artists Top 50 (or 30) amongst all artists.
